Almost all essential oils are refreshing with skin friendly repair in soap, and help in the control of body odor. While they are the most costly ingredients in any soap preparation, their properties enhance the benefits already inherent in the soaps.
Some of the most useful essential oils for soap formulas:
Lavender. Well known to calm and soothe the spirit. Relieves stress, anxiety, and tension. Soothing for distressed skin.
Tea Tree. Tea tree is very herbal yet is considered uplifting. It is well-known help for troubled skin.
Eucalyptus. Eucalyptus can be grounding and up-lifting. It sometimes helps reduce excess oiliness if used as a facial soap. Inhalation helps clear sinuses.
Lemongrass. Lemongrass is one of nature's stress relievers. It is commonly used for oily and distressed skin. It is refreshing to use after a workout. Many golfers and sports folks use it for its insect repellent properties.
Rosemary. Nature's fine-tuning knob. When you need a mood adjustment, are feeling a bit down, or need to be more alert, rosemary brings mental balance. Rosemary is excellent for itchiness and many skin troubles. NOTE: Rosemary essential oil should NOT be used by pregnant women or anyone who suffers from epilepsy.
Patchouli. The Age of Aquarius essential oil. Patchouli is an essential oil aroma that one seems to either love or hate, but in soap, it is mild to the spirit. In soap it is calming, relaxing, and is said to enhance happiness. It is excellent for very dry skin. It is gentle enough to be useful on troubled skin and often helpful for soothing foot issues.
Peppermint. Peppermint is a wonderful morning wake up call as it is refreshing and stimulating. It helps relieve invigorate your body and brings relief when inhaled.
Spearmint. Spearmint is light, calming, and relaxing, used often to uplift the spirit from mental fatigue. It has a much lighter aroma than many oils. Inhalation of its vapors soothes.
